Privacy Policy

The short version: your test results never leave your browser. Ads and analytics from Google use cookies, and you can opt out.

Who we are

MouseTestLab ("we", "us") runs the website mousetestlab.com, a set of free tools for testing a computer mouse and keyboard in the browser. This policy explains what information is collected when you use the site, who collects it, and the choices you have. If you have a question about it, write to us using the details on the contact page.

Your test results stay on your device

Every test on this site runs entirely in your browser. Clicks, key presses, mouse movement, timings, scores and the reports you generate are processed on your own device and are never sent to our servers. We do not have accounts, and we do not ask for your name or email address to use any tool.

To make the tools more useful, a few things are saved in your browser's local storage:

Stored item What it is for How long
Theme setting Remembers light or dark mode Until you clear it
Personal bests and recent runs Shows your top scores on CPS-style tests Until you clear or reset them
Sound setting Remembers whether the click sound is on Until you clear it

This data never leaves your browser. You can delete it at any time with the reset buttons on each tool, or by clearing this site's data in your browser settings.

Advertising

We use Google AdSense to show ads, which is how we keep every tool free. Google and its partners are third-party vendors that may use cookies, web beacons and similar technologies to serve and measure ads.

  • Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites.
  • Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the internet.
  • You can opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. You can also opt out of some third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalised advertising at aboutads.info or, in Europe, youronlinechoices.eu.
  • If you opt out, you will still see ads, but they will be less relevant to you.

For more detail, see how Google uses information from sites that use its services and Google's advertising policies.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics to understand, in aggregate, which tools are used, how people find the site and which pages have problems. Google Analytics uses cookies and collects information such as the pages you visit, your approximate location (derived from your IP address), your device and browser type, and how you arrived at the site. We do not use it to identify you personally. The site sends it only anonymous usage events, such as which tool was started or finished, the mode or duration you picked, and a pass or fail category. Your scores, click timings, mouse movement and reports are never sent to it. Google Analytics sets first-party cookies named _ga and _ga_<ID>, which last up to two years. You can block Google Analytics with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.

If you visit from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, a consent message from a Google-certified consent management platform asks for your choice before advertising and analytics cookies are used for personalisation. Until you choose, Google tags run in a restricted mode that does not set advertising or analytics cookies. You can change your choice at any time with the Privacy choices link in the footer of every page.

Hosting and server logs

The site is served through Cloudflare. Like any web host, Cloudflare processes technical data needed to deliver pages and protect the site from abuse, such as your IP address, browser type and the time of the request. This data is handled under Cloudflare's privacy policy and is not combined with your test results, which never reach the server.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct or delete personal information, to object to or restrict its processing, and to withdraw consent.

  • EEA and UK (GDPR). Our legal basis for analytics and personalised ads is your consent; for keeping the site secure it is our legitimate interest.
  • California (CCPA/CPRA). We do not sell personal information for money. Personalised advertising can count as "sharing" under California law; you can opt out through Google Ads Settings or by enabling Global Privacy Control in your browser.

Because we do not hold accounts or test data, most information is held by Google and Cloudflare and can be managed with the tools linked above. For anything else, contact us and we will reply within 30 days.

Children

This site is a general-audience tool and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us and we will take steps to delete it.

Our guides link to other websites, such as sources for world-record claims. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those websites.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when the site or the law changes. The date at the top of this page shows when it was last updated. Significant changes will be noted on this page.
