How to run a double click test
Click about 50 times
Use Click test at your normal pace. Left, right and middle are tracked separately.
Hold for 5 seconds
Switch to Hold test and hold the button three times. This catches a switch that lets go while you drag.

This double click checker separates real faults from fast clicking. If the mouse double clicking test finds a fault, the fix section below covers debounce time settings, cleaning and switch replacement, from the quickest fix to the most reliable.
How the test decides
We record the exact time of every press and release your browser reports, then look for patterns a healthy switch never produces.
Bounce
A new press arrives less than 15 ms after the previous release. No finger can do that, so the switch contact rattled.
Fast repeat
Two presses of the same button closer than 80 ms. A deliberate double click is usually slower; if yours is faster, lower the slider.
Release during hold
During the hold test the button releases and presses again within 300 ms: the switch lost contact while held.
Why does my mouse double click?
Worn or oxidised switch
- Likely cause
- The most common cause. The metal leaf inside wears with use and starts to bounce.
- What to do
- Raise debounce time, then warranty or replacement.
Very low debounce setting
- Likely cause
- Gaming mice tuned for speed accept a second press very quickly and tolerate less wear.
- What to do
- Raise the debounce time a few milliseconds in the mouse software.
Static or dirt
- Likely cause
- Less common. Debris or static inside the switch can cause random extra clicks.
- What to do
- Unplug the mouse for a minute, clean around the buttons.
Software
- Likely cause
- A macro, an auto clicker or Windows ClickLock can create extra clicks.
- What to do
- If this test is clean but other apps still double click, check these first.
